Miar, Comet Elemental(Picture is on bottom)
By J Kovach
Light Civilization, Angel Command
ORIGINS
After a catastrophic explosion, the Dragons awoke. The chaos and destruction that followed rivaled even the devastating global war that preceded it. The Light Bringers, the most powerful rulers of The Light Civilization, sought to not only shield their civilization from this new danger, but also find a way to attack and conquer these ancient beasts that had risen from the ashes. What they discovered was a way to channel the power of the sun itself, leading to the birth of the Angel Command. This harnessing of omnipotent energy created unimaginably strong creatures; it also spelled the end of life as it had existed on the planet. As the Angels powered into action, night was blasted from the sky, and as they battled the venerable Dragons, their titanic battles knocked the planet off its alignment.
ATTACKS
The Angels have many weapons at their disposal. In the blink of an eye, they can deftly switch between light, beams, sabers, and distortions. At the same time, they can disrupt gravity, create massive energy fields, and teleport away from the enemy. These weapons hover near their bodies when not in use, leaving their hands free to block any onslaught. To gather power, Miar, Comet Elemental heats up the atmosphere around it, magnetizing molecules as the air screams to a thundering crescendo. The light finally bursts from its eyes and spreads over its body, gathering in a beam of energy that annihilates any shield or enemy in its path. Although Miar generally works as a guard, it is also well-suited at rooting out an enemy and forcing the attack.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Miar's original purpose was to destroy enemy shielding. However, after seeing it and its brethren in battle, the Light Bringers quickly realized the unbridled destructive potential that existed within the Angel Command. Their wisdom prevailed, and the Light Bringers kept Miar and the other Angels in stasis for times of utter desperation. Since then, the Angels have only been activated twice in the history of the World. The sheer amount of energy that is needed to activate each unique Angel is prohibitive, equivalent to the Light City's energy output for an entire month. Because of this weakness, Light Bringers keep the Angels hidden above them, concealed behind one of the four major atmospheric layers, making it impossible for ground and water dwellers to know about them (or any other Light technology). The only signs that those below see or hear of Light's forces are major fluctuations in energy, which are seen as flares of light. It is because of these disruptions that, in ancient times, those below thought they were witnessing the power of Gods. Most of the Light Civilization exists in the uppermost part of the stratosphere, the second layer of the planet's atmosphere. Near the lower part of the mesosphere, the third layer of the planet's atmosphere, exists the Angel Command. They take this high vantage point in order to better sense danger from above and below, without interference from the city.
CIVILIZATION
Those that exist in the Civilization of Light feel they have a responsibility to the other civilizations. Since their technology is advanced beyond the other realms, and since they have a strong desire for peace, they believe it is essential to keep their high-powered toys away from the lower, war-like states. By doing this, they feel they are saving the planet from massive destruction. The colonies that make up the Light Civilization levitate in mid-air, and are unencumbered by the harshness of gravity. The main city is surrounded by satellite towns. Their main resource is light, though they are also able to weave the molecules of the atmosphere together into a sort of fabric. This peace-loving society was virtually unknown and undisturbed until much of the land and water territories were destroyed, which led the survivors to attempt an invasion of Light's dwellings. Quickly, the Light joined forces with the Nature Civilization. To this day, Nature continues to be the only society that truly respects the Light. The main goal of the Light is to bring order and peace to the world again. Because of this, they have placed themselves as superior noble warriors in the sky, watching over the development and destruction of those below.

General Dark Fiend(Picture is on bottom)
By J Kovach
Darkness Civilization, Dark Lord
ORIGINS
Beneath the beautiful death masks each Dark Lords wears lies what many believe to be nothing more than an inky, black shadow. None have ever survived to see the true face of any member of the ruling class of the Darkness Civilization. In the year 36, after the great cataclysm that destroyed much of the civilizations' lands, the Dark Lords devised a plan called operation "Dark Fang," in which the worms of the underworld attacked the Nature Civilization. With voracious appetites, they consumed the majority of the heart of the greatest power on the planet--which was also the heart of the land of the Nature creatures--as well as devouring all of the Giant Insects that lived in the lush woods. Finally, a unified tribe emerged from the trees led by the great hero, Silver Fist. Together, they triumphantly beat back this maggoty pestilence--yet as the tribe began to celebrate their victory, phase two of the Dark Lords' plan began. Demon Commanders, lead by General Dark Fiend, poured out from the murky cracks in the earth. They ambushed Silver Fist and his people, slaughtering all but their fearless leader.
ATTACKS
General Dark Fiend wields a mighty sword in one hand and great tendrils of shadow in the other. His impressive stance is slow and dominant. As he passes he focuses his tenebrous energy, and the shields of enemy armies simply shatter. At the start of each battle, he opens his mouth and lets out a war cry that rouse his festering troops into a frenzy of killing. These Dark armies kill out of fear of their general, out of hate for the living, and out of sorrow for themselves. They desire immortality and they will die trying to get it. The strongest asset that General Dark Fiend possesses in war is his influence over those fighting beneath him.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Dark Lords are the known dictators of the Darkness Civilization. The masks they wear serve to protect them from the toxicity of the air in the underworld, and keep their true identities a mystery. These masks are beautiful, designed to look like exquisite, human death masks. General Dark Fiend, the most regal of the Dark Lords, stands broad shouldered and tall next to his peers. He dresses only in black and red, his signature colors of luck, and has challenged Baraga, Blade of Gloom on many occasions for copying his style. Many minions surround General Dark Fiend, and as pieces of his armor break from battle, the minions fight to be the one chosen to fashion a new piece for him. Of course, the one minion left standing is the one lucky enough to serve the Dark Lord in this task; Dark Fiend requires only blackened bone for his armor, which is created through a process of burnishing and searing. Most of the time, the lucky minion does not survive "presenting" the new piece of armor to the general.
CIVILIZATION
Toxic gases and despair permeate everything in the bleakness that is the Darkness Civilization. Deep within the earth lies the filth and disease that the creatures from this banal society live and die in everyday. Death is commonplace, but the weary dead do not rest--these creatures rise again to become nothing more than rotted, animated corpses. Their nature is unerringly territorial and violent. Their desire to destroy anything living comes from the harsh jealousy they feel toward those that live above them in the clean light. It is utter chaos at every moment beneath the earth. These sorry souls struggle against the fiery, acrid elements that rend skin from bone and poison everything in sight. Except, of course, for the Dark Lords. These power-mad nobles walk with confidence and pride above the tumult of the few living and the countless dead. They revel in the suffering of their lessers, and demand staunch obedience and respect at all times. Their cruelty is unmatched. General Dark Fiend himself makes it a habit to cut a swath through the horde of great unwashed with his mighty sword as he strolls to his castle for lunch.

Vashuna, Sword Dancer(Picture is on bottom)
By J Kovach
Darkness Civilization, Demon Command
ORIGINS
The Demon Command of the Darkness Civilization is a highly trained race of war hungry specialists. They were created by the Dark Lords centuries ago, before the catastrophic explosion that resulted in the shortage of usable resources on the planet. The Dark Lords gathered the most ruthless of each race of the underdark. Many of these beings were psychologically deformed, missing the ability to feel remorse, regret, or know wrong from right. The two common attributes all of the candidates shared were a predilection toward relentless violence and a keen ability toward the tactics of war; the Dark Lords began mutation experiments to further enhance these qualities. Some of the creatures did not survive the mental torture and manipulation inflicted upon them, but the ones that did became the brutal killers known as the Demon Command. The Demon Commanders rule their own battalions of creatures of Darkness. Generally, they are not the first to be called into a fight, but they are always the last to leave the battlefield.
ATTACKS
What makes the Demon Command so dangerous is their ability to destroy the shields of the enemy. Not only does Vashuna have this ability, but he is also a master at wielding the tempered swords he carries. His body barely moves as he swings the blades so quickly that normal eyes cannot see them. This deadly attack is difficult to counter, giving the appearance that an approaching enemy simply falls to pieces in front of Vashuna. Aside from being an effective way to dispatch a fighter, it also keeps other would-be attackers at bay. But this is not the only use for Veshuna's abilities: when in his hands, the swords seem to have a mesmerizing effect on those watching. First, he begins to move slowly, as in a dance. As those around him become enthralled, they start to approach without even noticing the movement of their own bodies. Finally, when enough enemies have drawn near, he attacks. This technique has no effect on the other members of the Darkness Civilization, as most of them are blind from living in the dark for so long.
POINTS OF INTEREST
In order to keep his skills honed for the battlefield, Vashuna choreographs katas that he uses to train his troops. These, when done slowly, appear as graceful, beautiful dances. It takes many years of practice to not only gain the coordination to perform these katas correctly, but also to gain the massive body strength it takes to hold the forms properly. He is so skilled that the Dark Lords required him to train the other Demon Commanders in the art of one-on-one melee combat. This created resentment between the Commanders, however--many of them believed Vashuna too favored, and found ways to undermine him. Recently, the Demon Commanders lured Vashuna and his troops into battle against an army of the Forest Civilization in a failed attempt to assassinate him. In light of this attempt, the Dark Lords created training programs for all of the Dark Lords, using each Commander's specialties as training for the others.
CIVILIZATION
The entrance most used to gain access to the underdark by those that live there is called the Black Maze of Tears--this is considered the 'front door' to the realms of Darkness. It is a living maze of tunnels that cross over each other, dead end, and roll back on themselves. Some points of the caves twist down into openings barely large enough for a small human to snake through. Throughout this 300 mile knot of caves are reservoirs of space that are inhabited by groups from the different races of the Dark. These races keep mutated monsters in the reservoirs with them. Any creatures that attempt to gain access to the main living areas of the underdark had better be welcome, or else be prepared for inevitable death in the pitch blackness of the Maze. Further, many of the caves were carved by water, from sources that are still present in the underdark--however, all such water is contaminated by putrid disease. When traveling through the caves, there is no way to avoid contact with this tainted water--it is the one element that will, eventually, cause the demise of any invader.

King Mazelan(Picture is on bottom)
By J Kovach
Water Civilization, Leviathan
ORIGINS
There is no one now alive in the Water Civilization who knows where the great Leviathans originated. Because of the extremely long life span of these creatures, none can recall a time when the Leviathans were not around. Breeding for these colossal giants is so rare that none recall even seeing a calf, though it is known that these creatures do birth live young. When a female becomes pregnant, she is cloistered away until the calf is born and can survive on its own. Because the pregnant female is so vulnerable, she is surrounded by other females from her pod whose job it is to protect her against threat--anything that comes too close during this time is destroyed. After the calf is born, there is a great celebration. In a silent, secret language, all Leviathans are called to the birthplace. These rare births are seen as triumphs to all of the Leviathan race, not just the pod the calf belongs to. After the celebration, the original group of females, mother and calf are left again to rear the calf to a size that will ensure its safety in the dangerous oceanic world.
ATTACKS
Size matters. Many historic battles have been fought on the backs of the great Leviathans of the deep. Enemy troops only see a great, wet, land mass and unwittingly follow the battle onto it. After the enemy and the water warriors are engaged, the Leviathan dives deep. Many enemy soldiers are pulled down beneath the waves by the suction--struggling back to the surface is rare since most battle armor doesn't float. Those that do manage to rise are quickly consumed by the other dangerous creatures that live in the depths. King Mazelan keeps his eyes closed until the moment when the enemy is about to step on him. He then opens an enormous eye and waits for the enemy to realize he is actually a huge creature. Often, the fear and confusion created by this tactic causes panic, and many flee before the battle even begins.
POINTS OF INTEREST
It is said that King Mazelan is a family man. His mate disappeared nearly seventy years ago, and is due to come out of the birthing and rearing time very soon. This event is considered a sign of strength and fortune for a King and those of his pod. Not all females are able to give birth and the ones that are may only birth one or two calves in her entire life. King Mazelan is known to be fiercely loyal, first to his pod and second to his race. If there is nothing to gain for his people, then King Mazelan will not waste his time and energy on something. Not even the Cyber Lords, with their powerful ability to control and communicate with all the creatures of the sea, can order a Leviathan to do their will. This is especially true with Mazelan, who will only go to speak to Cyber Lords upon the request of King Ponitas.
CIVILIZATION
Though much rebuilding has taken place in the great Metropolitan to recreate it in all of its original glory, another major city has been created. Most of the inhabitants of the sea do not know of this new place; only those held in the highest regard have been made aware of it. In trade for giving his pod status in the new city and a place on its powerful council, King Mazelan has agreed to use his pod to ensure the protection of this secret place. The sonic range of a Leviathan is so extensive that a creature can be stopped before they can even see a hint that a city might lie in the distance. They are turned away--if they are too curious, they are consumed. This new city is luminous, with every color glowing vibrantly and echoing through the water. It has spiraling towers that roll in on themselves like stained glass. Technology has bloomed in this new place creating fast convenience, impenetrable protection, and instant communication. It is said this breathtaking new city will be open to the rest of Water very soon.

Here's something fun for you guys:
Battleship Mutant(Picture is on bottom)
By J Kovach
ORIGINS
This creature was not conjured from the depths of the insidious minds of the Dark Lords of the Underdark, as many others of this civilization are. The first time the Dark Lords saw the Battleship Mutant, they thought it was some great new beast of war built by those of the Water civilization. They fled and rushed back to their bases to gather armies enough to defeat it. The Mutant followed to the edge of the great underground sea and waited. It did not attack. After gathering sufficient forces, the Dark Lords approached the Mutant, only to discover that it was a writhing personification of black energy that had gathered together. This energy drew the bodies of those killed in ritual sacrifice to one place and melded them together, one by one. It had outgrown any deep, cramped places in the lands of Darkness, and adapted itself to water. The Dark Lords discovered that with this enormous creature around, there was no waste of power or material--it absorbed any souls, bodies, and energy into itself, slowly growing. It was fiercely protective of the Darkness territory, and was unbeatable in battle.
ATTACKS
Although on its own the Battleship Mutant can be a mighty opponent, it is more imposing when it does not directly attack. This creature is made up of the spirits and energy of those loyal souls that gave their lives in pursuit of triumph for Darkness. The Mutant is able to give this same energy freely to any Darkness warriors around it. The energy bursts forth in the form of black tentacles, which pry open the mouths of the nearby warriors, feeding itself directly to them. These fighters become mindless killers, and take on devastating power. When entering battle, they grow enraged and destroy everything in their paths. One side effect of this experience, however, is that the warriors spend everything in themselves in this one attack: their own energy, the black energy of the Mutant, and even their souls. In true sacrifice, they fall dead after their berserk attack.
POINTS OF INTEREST
It is believed that loyalty to the Dark Lords by all of their underlings endures beyond death. This loyalty, when the body dies, is said to be what makes up the core of the Battleship Mutant, which is why it never attacks those of Darkness. The Battleship Mutant is also incapable of communication and emotion, lingering unmoving until it senses an intruder, or until one of the Dark Lords commands it to do otherwise. The Mutant has also been known to take out sea-faring vessels, sending its black tentacles aboard and beating the crew to death. After the ship is clear, the Mutant takes the ship back to the edge of the Darkness Civilization and waits. Soldiers of Darkness will often man the stolen ships, and use them to ambush unsuspecting enemy armies.
CIVILIZATION
Because of the sacrificial nature of the culture of Darkness, death by Mutant is sought by all Darkness creatures--it is considered the most significant way to die among these beings. When the soldiers first learn the Mutant will be accompanying them to fight, there is a great battle in which soldiers fight to the death in order to go into battle beside the great Mutant. This pre-battle creates a mood of invincibility among the soldiers--not invincibility against death, but invincibility against defeat.
